Fathers Reading Every Day (& other Male Role Models!!!)
Tuesday, February 28, 2012
5:30 – 7:00 p.m.

The FRED event encourages fathers to read to their children daily. Fathers and other male caregivers and their children are invited to attend this free session at the Cohasset Elementary School for dinner, informational materials on reading, a book give away and more. A variety of male community leaders will be present to read short stories to the children and their fathers.

The FRED event is brought to you by ISD 318 – Cohasset Elementary School, Minnesota Reading Corps and Project Read.  Sponsored by Lake Country Power Operation Round Up, District 318 Endowment Fund

A Valentine’s Day Treat for Everyone!

On Tuesday, February 14, we will be having ice cream cones in honor of Valentine’s Day!  There is NO CHARGE for the ice cream and every student will get an ice cream cone.  There will be a free will offering to raise funds for the PTC to buy a new popcorn machine.  The popcorn machine that the PTC has been using for Popcorn Days is beyond repair and must be replaced.  Any donation is appreciated!

Fathers Reading Every Day

(An event for Fathers, Male Role Models, and their children)

Tuesday, February 28

The FRED event encourages fathers to read to their children daily. Fathers and other male caregivers and their children are invited to attend two free sessions at the Cohasset Elementary School for dinner, informational materials on reading, a book give away and more. A variety of male community leaders will be present to read short stories to the children and their fathers.

The FRED event is brought to you by ISD 318 – Cohasset Elementary School, Americorps, Minnesota Reading Corps, Project Read and the Minnesota Humanities Center.

Food for the night will be pizza from LMNO and yogurt parfaits from McDonald’s.

The session for fathers will be a little different from the past couple years so even if you’ve been before you’ll learn something new.  On a side note…. part of the presentation to the men will discuss the impact and importance they have on the lives of our children.  If you have photos you would be willing to that show you reading with your child OR sharing one of their favorite activities (even if non-reading related), please email them to: smartinson@isd318.org

A Night of Family Math Fun!

Families are invited to join us for dinner and math stations.  Math stations for the evening include:

• Math Websites (Netbooks) – a list of suggested websites will be provided.

• Math Apps (iPods/iPads)- a list of suggested apps will be provided.
• www.tinyurl.com/Cohasset-iPod-Links
• Math Board Games – traditional board games along with math specific titles.
• www.tinyurl.com/MathBoardGames
• Math Playing Card Games – activities that reinforce math skills, each family will take home a deck of playing cards and a packet of activities.
• Math “Make and Take” Session
• Math Read Alouds – storybooks with a math theme.

You’ll be able to participate in activities and take home ideas to help your child in the area of math.  Kids will also take home a free book!

Each family will leave the event with a wealth of math related resources and ideas to help their child.  All the activities are free and the only costs are if you choose to grab an ice cream cone from the 4th graders raising funds for their field trip  we hope you can make it.
